Personal Growth & Healing

I’m Not the Same Woman You Met — And That’s the Point

There was a version of me you met once.

She loved hard. She gave chances. She over-explained herself. She stayed longer than she should have because she believed that if she loved somebody enough, communicated enough, prayed enough, or tried hard enough, things would eventually change.

Yeah… she’s not here anymore.

And before anybody gets offended, let me make something very clear: I didn’t change because I stopped caring. I changed because I finally started caring about myself, too.

I’ve learned that growing doesn’t always look like a dramatic transformation. Sometimes growth looks like not responding to the text. Sometimes it looks like walking away without giving a 45-minute explanation. Sometimes it looks like sitting alone and realizing, “Damn… I really don’t want to go through that again.”

That’s growth.

I Used to Take Everything Personally

I used to wonder why people treated me certain ways.

What did I do?

Was I not enough?

Did I love too much?

Should I have been more patient?

Maybe if I had handled that differently…

I spent way too much time trying to understand people’s behavior instead of simply accepting what their behavior was showing me.

Now?

I watch actions.

Because words can be beautiful. Promises can sound amazing. Apologies can be emotional.

But patterns tell the truth.

And I’m no longer interested in arguing with somebody’s pattern.

I Don’t Beg for What Doesn’t Want Me

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that you cannot convince somebody to value you.

You can’t love somebody into becoming emotionally available.

You can’t communicate somebody into having integrity.

You can’t beg somebody into respecting you.

And you definitely cannot force somebody to recognize your worth.

So I stopped trying.

Not because I think I’m better than anybody.

But because I finally understand that my worth isn’t something another person gets to negotiate.

If somebody doesn’t see it, that’s okay.

They simply aren’t my audience.

I’m Learning to Choose Peace

I used to think love was supposed to be difficult.

The arguing. The jealousy. The confusion. The breaking up and getting back together. The constant wondering where you stand.

Somehow, chaos started looking like passion.

Now I’m realizing that peace is actually attractive.

Consistency is attractive.

Communication is attractive.

Feeling safe enough to be yourself is attractive.

Being able to sleep at night without wondering what somebody is doing?

Extremely attractive. 😂

I’ve reached a point where I don’t want relationships, friendships, or connections that constantly require me to recover from them.

Life is already life.

I don’t need my relationships adding another battlefield.

The Old Me Would Have Stayed

That’s probably the biggest difference.

The old me might have stayed because of history.

Because of memories.

Because of potential.

Because of promises.

Because of what somebody could become.

But I’ve learned something the hard way:

You cannot build a relationship with somebody’s potential.

You have to deal with who they are right now.

And if who they are right now isn’t compatible with the life I’m trying to build, then loving them doesn’t mean I have to stay.

Sometimes love means letting go.

Sometimes self-respect means closing the door.

And sometimes the most loving thing you can do for yourself is admit:

“This isn’t working for me anymore.”

I’m Still Soft — Just Smarter

And let me say this because people love to confuse boundaries with bitterness.

I’m not bitter.

I’m not cold.

I’m not heartless.

I still love deeply.

I still believe in real love.

I still believe people can change.

I still believe in second chances.

But I also believe in second chances with boundaries.

I’ve learned that being a good woman doesn’t mean allowing people to continuously hurt you.

Being forgiving doesn’t mean forgetting.

Being understanding doesn’t mean accepting everything.

And having a big heart doesn’t mean everybody gets unlimited access to it.

You May Not Recognize Me Anymore

And honestly?

That’s okay.

You knew the version of me who tolerated things I wouldn’t tolerate today.

You knew the version of me who would question herself before questioning somebody else’s behavior.

You knew the version of me who sometimes confused being needed with being loved.

But I’ve grown.

I’ve cried.

I’ve messed up.

I’ve forgiven.

I’ve walked away.

I’ve gone back.

I’ve started over.

I’ve learned.

And I’ve become somebody different through all of it.

So if you look at me now and think, “She’s changed…”

You’re absolutely right.

That’s the point.

I wasn’t supposed to stay the same.

I’m Not Starting Over. I’m Starting Different.

I’m not ashamed of who I used to be.

That woman got me here.

She survived things I didn’t think I’d survive.

She loved people who didn’t always know how to love her back.

She made mistakes.

She trusted the wrong people.

She ignored red flags.

She gave too many chances.

But she also learned.

And now I’m taking everything she taught me into this next chapter.

I’m not looking for revenge.

I’m not trying to prove anything.

I’m not interested in making anybody regret losing me.

I’m simply building a life where I don’t have to abandon myself to keep somebody else.

That’s the difference.

I’m not the same woman you met.

And that’s not a warning.

It’s a celebration.

Because the woman standing here today knows herself a little better.

She knows what she wants.

She knows what she won’t accept.

She knows when to stay.

She knows when to leave.

And most importantly…

she finally knows that choosing herself isn’t selfish.

It’s necessary.

So yes, I’ve changed.

Thank God I did. 🖤✨
